Member States and the European Parliament are negociating the rules that will govern the electricity system after 2020. At stake: setting a framework that allows a functioning market to be increasingly based on renewable generation.
The current discussions however fail to consider a whole segment of the renewable energy power production, which is technologies that can provide flexible and dispatchable power such as geothermal, biomass, solar thermal or ocean energy. Alongside Bioenergy Europe, ESTELA and Ocean Energy Europe, EGEC signed a joint statement to call for the recognition of these type of RES electricity production for the decarbonisation of the electricity system.
