We are hiring: Policy Assistant

EGEC, the voice of the geothermal sector, seeks a policy assistant to support its activities on renewable energy and climate legislation as well as EU funded projects. An initial six-month internship contract, under Belgian “convention immersion professionnelle” law, is offered. There is a possibility of an extension for the right candidate.

We seek a candidate with at least 12 months post-graduate professional experience, preferably in energy, climate or EU affairs in a think-tank, association, company or civil society organisation. We also welcome applicants seeking to enter renewable energy and climate fields. A native-level grasp of written English is essential alongside good self-organisation skills and the maturity to be an effective team player.

Core responsibilities include:

• Writing position papers and briefing notes;
• Monitoring and researching our key policies; 
• Engaging with advocacy activities;
• Participating in events, meetings and webinars;
• Managing mailing lists and databases;
• Supporting EU-funded research projects; and
• General support to the team.

Desired profile:

• Highly proficient level of written English is essential. Other languages are an asset;
• About 12 months of postgraduate experience in energy, climate or EU affairs;
• Experience writing documents, publications, analysis for external or internal audiences; 
• Knowledge of current EU affairs and/or a special interest in renewable energies;
• Confidence and good self-organisation skills;
• Proficiency of MS Office suite.
