Join us on Wednesday, 8 November, at 10:00 CET for the webinar “Unlocking Earth’s heat: geothermal district heating and cooling”, organised by Euroheat & Power and the European Geothermal Energy Council.
The potential of Earth’s energy is far greater than the geothermal resources that are currently used: from today’s 2-3%, 25% of the EU’s heating and cooling needs could be covered by geothermal energy from 2035.
Geothermal DHC networks are already a reality in many EU countries with over 350 operating systems: Iceland, Italy, France, Germany, Denmark, Slovakia, Hungary, etc.
District heating and cooling networks are a key solution to exploit this resource at scale to deliver affordable and decarbonised heat to commercial buildings and households. They are versatile, enabling recovering heat from various depths and temperatures.
The Parliament’s own initiative report on geothermal energy provides an opportunity for stakeholders to jointly reflect on how to tap into this vast potential to achieve net zero in 2050.
EGEC and Euroheat and Power are joining forces to shed light on this winning combo, exploring business models, successful projects, barriers and policy recommendations.
