The need to increase the geothermal workforce in Europe: Geothermal energy use may become an important stepping stone for the decarbonization of the energy sector in Europe. The available and so far, untapped resources are significant, the utilization technologies well developed with a great portfolio of high technological readiness solutions. However, in the past years, it became obvious that the lack of professionals working in the industrial geothermal sector may impose a major barrier towards a strong development of geothermal energy use in Europe.
This virtual event aims to establish connection between young academics and industrial representatives related to geothermal energy use and intends to offer a marketplace for networking and recruiting.

Ruediger Grimm is the founder of geoENERGIE concept GmbH in Freiberg – a key German company, which is specialised on the planning of shallow geothermal installations. Ruediger studied Geology at the technical university of Freiberg (Bergakademie Freiberg) and founded geoENERGIE Konzept GmbH in 2007. In 2021, he sold the company to the ENGIE group but remained the CEO of geoENERGIE Konzept GmbH. His company covers more than 30 employees and is operating in all regions of Germany as well as abroad.
Iulia Prodan co-founded Expert Proiect in 2015, a consultancy and design company specializing in renewable energy solutions for sustainable urban development and the first company in Romania to design, implement, and monitor energy geostructures under the brand GreenTAGS. She is also a University Lecturer at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, with a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering.
The European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) is a not-for-profit organisation promoting all aspects of the geothermal industry. Founded in 1998, its objective is to facilitate awareness and expansion of geothermal applications across Europe by shaping policy, improving investment conditions and steering research.
It has over 200 members from 30 countries, ranging from developers to equipment manufacturers, energy providers, national associations, consultants, research centres, geological surveys, government agencies, departments and public authorities. This allows EGEC to represent the entire geothermal sector.
EGEC is listed in the European Transparency Register No. 11458103335-07

CA18219 Geothermal-DHC: This EU-COST Action addresses the integration of geothermal energy into decarbonized heating and cooling networks in Europe at various temperature- and capacity level based on a technological bottom-up approach. The network currently covers around 100 representatives from research and industry. More information about Geothermal-DHC can be found at www.geothermal-dhc.eu.
CA21156 FOLIGE – The aim of this COST Action is to gather all needed information to reduce the barriers preventing the large-scale implementation of energy geostructures and to foster their development by creating a multi-disciplinary network between the different stakeholders (local authorities, communities, developers, designers, academics, contractors etc). More information about COST Action Foliage can be found at https://www.ca-foliage.eu/
