About EGC 2025

The European Geothermal Congress is the largest geothermal congress in Europe, representing the geothermal field in all its diversity: power, heating & cooling, storage, lithium and minerals. It includes high level sessions, technical sessions, workshops, networking, an exclusive gala dinner, trainings and site visits. It is a rich programme that covers the diverse contributions of geothermal to decarbonation and energy security, and the latest advancements in geothermal technologies.

Organised every three years, EGC 2025 is the perfect platform for international stakeholders, including energy, industrial, financial, policymaking, academic, and societal sectors, to meet, debate and network in Zürich, Switzerland.

EGC becomes a unique event in Europe to support geothermal deployment. 2025 will be a new key year: the move from a niche market to a mass market with exponential growth of geothermal in European countries. Let’s all meet there to answer the challenges of this growth!” Said Philippe Dumas, EGEC Secretary-General.

With more than 1,200 attendees in the 2022 edition, the participants will have several opportunities to shape the activities of the congress and share their discoveries with peers. Informal interactions as well as prearranged b2b meetings will spark innovative ideas, and geothermal will take centre stage through an exceptional programme focused on the latest technological advancements, industry and market trends, and policy developments highlighted by featured speakers, networking sessions and poster presentations. EGC 2025 will also give EGEC members a chance to meet and develop potential business opportunities and collaborations.

In addition, Zürich is a wonderful and dynamic city to discover, full of history and outstanding heritage that has emerged as a pivotal hub in shaping the future of sustainable energy and economic development in Europe.

From 2050, Switzerland aims not to emit more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than can be recovered by natural and technical accumulators. Geothermal energy can contribute to this objective in several ways. In the area of heat (production and storage), the economically exploitable potential of geothermal energy is greater than 20 TWh/a. For electricity production, geothermal energy can contribute to Switzerland’s supply security.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of our host, Geothermie-Suisse, Zürich is opening its arms and welcoming the EGEC community. The host is providing inspirational support and determination to make EGC 2025 a great success.

The shallow geothermal market is very well developed in Switzerland, with related know-how, and the deep geothermal market is in a very dynamic development phase, with expertise needed. EGC2025 is a unique opportunity for transnational transfer of best practices to integrate fully the different geothermal solutions in the Swiss and European Energy mix and to accelerate decarbonation and energy security”, said Geothermie-Suisse.
