EGEC response to the public consultation on the draft report on preliminary recommendations for technical screening criteria for the EU taxonomy

EGEC’s contribution is focused on three main priorities:

• The Platform’s Technical Working Group report must highlight the direct replacement benefit of fossil heating technologies by renewable ones;
• The thresholds imposed on geothermal technologies for Taxonomy compliance must reflect the available LCA (c.f. GEOENVI project);

Geothermal raw material extraction must be listed in the Taxonomy as a sustainable investment with substantial contribution to circular economy and climate change mitigation.
