As the “little Package”, meaning the first half of the Clean Energy Package reaches the phase of negociations between the European Commission, European Parliament and European Council (commonly refered to as “trialogue”), the Renewable Heating and Cooling industry associations (AEBIOM, EGEC, Solar Heat Europe) issued a joint position.
The joint position insists that the Renewable Energy Directive, the Energy Efficiency Directive and the Governance Directive should properly acknowledge the heating and cooling sector and introduce policies that allow this sector to engage in a decarbonisation pathway, thanks to renewables such as geothermal.
Moreover, the position insists that innovative renewable technologies, such as EGS, should not be exposed to the same market rules as other electricity producers.
Conversely, flexible renewables like geothermal power plants should be recognised in the text of the electricity regulation for the services they can provide to the grid.
